I DON'T ASK FOR MUCH

Key Verse

"Be assured that when we speak to you we’re not after crowd approval -- only God approval. Since we’ve been put through that battery of tests, you’re guaranteed that both we and the Message are free of error, mixed motives, or hidden agendas." (I Thessalonians 2:4, MSG)

Central Truth

Because of the trials that we face we present the gospel to others in a clear way so that we do not seek people’s approval; only God’s.

Reflections

This chapter has spoken a very important truth to my life and also a struggle. So many times we can become shy and fearful about speaking to others about the gospel. As we share our faith in the back of our minds we think "what will these people think of me?" Paul in this epistle shares that through the trials he had to face he only had to have God’s approval. What people think should not be important, only that we present the gospel to them. The person’s salvation is more important than our momentary discomfort.

In this culture we are very sensitive to people’s disapproval. It is interesting that when we go to other cultures it is much easier to present the gospel to others. While in Nigeria I had many chances to present the gospel, and it was not hard because I think I wanted to and also because I knew that I would not see them again. The truth is that I will see them again if I give them the gospel and they accept the Lord. What is more important than that?

Liz, Thank you for your encouragement to share our faith free of people's approval. Adrianne and I had dinner with a neighbor last night and your devotion is a good challenge for me to be free in sharing the most amazing person and the greatest message. Ryan
