USE OUR BODY TO WORSHIP GOD
- Key Verse
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?”
1 Cor. 6:19 (NASB)

Central Truth
All we have is God’s, including our body.
Reflections
Do you truly believe that God owns your body? I am not sure about you, but in my case, my actions certainly don’t reflect that sentiment. They could be lust, foul language, pride, anger, not taking care of my body as well as I could (indulgence in food, lack of exercise and/or sleep etc..). The point is we don’t take the time to think about God before our actions. After being so bad at sinning, one would think we’d learn and change course!
A teammate in my small group recently opined that “disappointment is a failed expectation." We instinctively recoil to our body as a reaction to various stimuli from our environment. We often panic and do not trust God to be there for us in time of need. This happens because our foundation is not strong enough to withstand the winds of change. How can we better reinforce that foundation and spruce up our faith?
We can only please God by completely surrendering to Him; not just in lip service, but in actions. Here are a few recommendations:
- Be honest with ourselves that we ought to repent, change our evil ways, and strive to honor God in everything that we do.
- Learn His Word by reading the Bible at least 15 – 30 minutes/day. The more we submit to His Word, the better equipped we’ll be for life. If you are truly passionate about something, you’ll make it happen.
- Imagine Jesus next to you… driving, working, watching TV, eating, exercising etc…
Discussion Questions
1. If someone is observing you from the outside, would they see a God-adoring Christian?
2. Is my life’s focal point God or ME? How can I focus my priorities accordingly?
3. What are you going to do today to glorify God with your body in thoughts and actions?

Your honesty is refreshing! I continually need to be reminded that the goal of Bible study is application--to MY life. Thank you, brother.

Thank you Guy for offering the body God gave you to serve others in a devastated nation.

I was touched by this devotional because it was so honest and had great application points. I do frequently neglect to take care of the body God has given me and to fully submit to his plans for it. Thank you for the reminder!

I must admit Guy, being a living sacrafice hurts, because my body was so used to a wreckless lifestyle. I'm so thankful that God is repairing the damaged I've done. I will continue to be repent and honest with myself and God. Thanks for the encouragement Brother!
