Reading Plan

Reading Plan

This year, we will travel with the apostle Paul on his missionary journeys by reading through the Book of Acts along with Paul’s letters.

The New Testament is composed of 27 books, 13 of which were written by Paul. The four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) record the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Acts picks up where the Gospels end, following Jesus’ death and resurrection. It opens with Christ’s ascension, tells of the subsequent ministry of the apostles and concludes with Paul’s conversion and missionary journeys. It is within this time frame in history, and a few years thereafter, that Paul writes his letters.

Thus, the reading plan for The Journey 2010 will move through the Book of Acts, taking short breaks to read Paul’s letters at the time when they were written during the Acts narrative. (For a better understanding for how the New Testament books fit together, please see the chart entitled “Integration of the New Testament.”)

By following this plan, you will gain a greater understanding of the challenges facing the early church and a stronger appreciation of Paul’s ministry. Moreover, you will learn of the Lord’s love for you, how you can come into a personal relationship with Him, and what it means to fellowship with Him daily.

Paul writes, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe.” (Ephesians 1:18, NASB)
